COVID-19 & Public School Finances (Honors Team Project, ACCT 3025)
As part of a team of four, I analyzed how COVID-19 affected the revenue and spending of U.S. public elementary and secondary schools using U.S. Census education finance data from 2016–2022. Following the IMPACT data analytics model, we cleaned messy government spreadsheets (merged cells, multi-row headers, inconsistent formatting), grouped states into official U.S. regions, and transformed the data in Power BI using custom columns and Text.Replace functions. Our dashboards showed rising state revenue, expenditures, and long-term debt after 2020, with the South receiving the most federal funding and the Northeast carrying the highest cost per student.
